By Christmas, the smart phone market will get even more crowded.

Microsoft has just announced a major upgrade to its mobile operating system - 7.

There were plenty of rumors it would be nothing more then 6.6, an upgrade from its current offering.

Microsoft is promising so much more: a Windows-based system rebuilt from the ground up with Zune, Xbox Live, Bing - all with a "live tile" interface.

Microsoft now has less than 10 percent of the smart phone market, down from a 25 percent before the iPhone, Android, etc. etc.

Now, Microsoft wants back in the game.

Will you take a good look at these new phones? Can Microsoft come back in the mobile space?

Really Microsoft? How long did it take you to realize that your mobile OS was too clumsy and slow? smartphones are not the same platform as PCs, you cant just port windows to them and expect to compete against OS's that are specialized for them

Microsoft will always play catchup to the more engineering and design centered companies like google and apple. They let the corporate bureaucracy get in the way of creativity, usability, and innovation when they care only about what their MBA's say.
